This week’s lesson was a fun one, but I didn’t do it exactly as Ricky suggested. It involved shooting out of the window of a moving car, so I had to have Becky drive as we were taking Jack and Bear out to “run” them. We were going to the McCarley Woods, which is outdoors and an interesting place. The idea was to get the boys out in the fresh air and wear them out.
The assignment was to turn the ISO down to a low number (100 or less), then use a slow shutter speed (1/8 or 1/10 sec) to get blurry, “dream-like” images of things like snow-covered trees. The movement of the car and the slow shutter speed combined with the slow ISO would create such images. But where I am in north Texas, there are no snow covered trees this time of year, and it was a cloudy day (no reflections from snow), so I used a faster ISO, and shot in aperture priority, so as to control the shutter speed depending on the brightness and the specific subject of the images. I got several interesting photos.
Here is the one that I submitted for the week’s challenge. It is a silver-painted fire hydrant along a city street in Sherman, TX USA:
Here is another street scene, steps with brick walls and a glass door with a reflection:
A more country-side shot of bamboo:
Which is good in black and white:
I like the sign even though it is not “dream-like”
Becky wanted a shot of trees over the road:
She also liked the round bales:
I like the railroad tracks:
And the railroad crossing sign with an abandoned building in the background:
It has been fun learning a variety of photography techniques.
